Help Shape the Future of AWVT
Who should shape AWVT, safeguard its standards and ensure it remains accountable to the communities it serves?
AWVT is developing a framework of practical standards for volunteer audiovisual technicians. But creating good technical standards is only part of the task. We also need to establish how those standards should be governed, who should have a voice in their development, and how AWVT itself should be held accountable.
We are therefore inviting volunteers, team leaders, churches, venues, trainers, educators, professional practitioners, manufacturers and others with an interest in volunteer technical training to help shape AWVT’s future governance.
This is a genuine consultation
We have not decided the answers in advance.
AWVT has been established to develop and act as a long-term custodian of standards for volunteer technicians, but the structures through which that responsibility should be exercised are still being developed.
The consultation explores questions including the role of AWVT’s Board, standards and education specialists, wider stakeholder representation, membership, a possible Council of Reference, and independent leadership.
Your responses will help us determine which approaches deserve to be developed into formal governance proposals.
Who should respond?
You do not need to be an audio professional or already involved with AWVT.
We want to hear from people across the volunteer technical community — including volunteers, team leaders, church leaders and trustees, trainers and educators, professional AV practitioners, manufacturers and suppliers, theatres and performing-arts organisations, community venues, other faith communities, and organisations that depend upon volunteer technical teams.
Different perspectives are valuable. We are interested both in areas of agreement and in where people’s views differ.

The consultation explores four related areas of AWVT’s future governance.
Standards & custodianship
Who should safeguard the standards over the long term, and what should protect them from inappropriate influence or control?
Representation & accountability
Whose voices should be represented, and how should AWVT be held accountable to the communities it serves?
Membership & decision-making
Who should be able to become a member of AWVT, and what influence should members have over the organisation and its standards?
Identity & accessibility
How should AWVT retain its Christian purpose while making its technical standards useful across the wider volunteer technical community?
